Piccolo Petes

Around 1987 some friends and I started an experimental sound project which we called Piccolo Petes.  The core personnel were and continue to be: myself, John Calhoun, and Brian Rounds.  Other participants have rotated in and out over the years.  Sometimes the 'Petes' are referred to as a band but that's not really a fair or accurate description.  Surely at times we resemble a band but it would be misleading to think of the Piccolo Petes in that way.  The term "band" puts a certain parentheses around our output and the project is all about dissolving parentheses.  The resulting works are marked by often times cryptic lyrics that form an abstract aural texture.

Piccolo Petes are improvisation -- improvised sounds, songs, instruments, scenarios, personalities.  Using the body as a human sampler and snatching dialog from films that never existed (but sound like they did), the Petes "break free into some goofy new realm of pop dada".
