Phage Table

Phage

Free standing enclosure : mixed media
8’h x 6.5’w x 16.5d
1997

Exhibited at Southern Exposure Gallery in San Francisco, Phage consisted of a free standing enclosure that was built within the gallery.  The exterior of the enclosure was color matched to Operation Desert Storm camouflage, while the interior followed Government specifications for laboratory design.  These specifications included monolithic wall coatings and seam sealed vinyl floors.  The interior, accessed through a self closing door, was cooled to about 50 degrees by a 240 volt air conditioner.  The Phage sculpture was resting on a table which, except for its illuminated top, was a replica of the first purpose built operating table.
