Phage

Phage

Bone, vinyl, Hydrogel, Dermalon suture, electronics
14”h x 24”w x 6”d
1995

The Phage work concerns a psychological virus – a bacteriophage of the psyche which destroys spirit by eating it from within.

A vibrating motor, encased in a submersible housing, is located in the abdominal area of this sculpture.  The motor is activated by viewer movement.

The Phage project has had three permutations to date.  Each version of the project holds the “blue dog” sculpture at its core while other elements are added and/or removed.  Over the years, within its air-tight, military specification storage container, the “blue dog” sculpture has developed a bacterial growth within its liquid interior.  This growth continues to change the color of the sculpture.
